Instructions
WHAT TO EXPECT:
We will measure the electrical activity that naturally comes from your brain by placing a cap with electrodes on your head. Additional electrodes will be placed on your earlobes and face. Everything is completely safe and harmless. Some gel will be applied to several spots on your face and scalp. The gel washes out easily and will be removed at the end of the experiment. You may be asked to look at shapes, words, etc. on a screen and/or listen to some sounds with headphones. You may be asked to respond to certain stimuli by pressing buttons. Please follow the instructions below so that your experience is as comfortable, enjoyable, and quick as possible.
IMPORTANT INSTRUCTIONS FOR PARTICIPATING:
1. Please come to the lab with clean, dry hair. Do not put any styling products in your hair.
2. Please do not apply makeup around your eyes and forehead.
3. Please remove any earrings.
4. If you wear contact lenses, you may want to bring your glasses instead. You will be asked to look at a computer screen for awhile and contacts cause eyes to become fatigued rather quickly.
5. Unless instructed otherwise, you may want to have a snack before you come to the lab. Keep in mind that the experiment will take about 2 to 3 hours.
6. Please refrain from using any substances (particularly the illegal kind) for at least 24 hours before your scheduled appointment. Unless instructed otherwise, alcohol and cigarettes are okay, but not in excess. Take all prescription medications as instructed by your physician.
7. Please be on time. Allow enough time for parking and locating the lab.
8. If you have received any additional instructions from your experimenter beforehand, please follow them very carefully.
